Warning: You can’t just memorize test questions and expect to pass your FAA Instrument Rating Written Test. Why? The FAA used to make their test question banks publicly available; however, they have not done so for many years. In fact, the FAA has recently gone through their entire database and changed every single test question and answer in order to eliminate test question memorization. No one, including test prep educators, has access to the FAA question banks. To be a safe and competent pilot-in-command, and to pass your required tests, there is no shortcut. You must acquire the necessary pilot knowledge.

King Schools Instrument Rating Ground School & Test Prep Course contains a text question explanation icon that contains a thorough explanation of the test questions. Click on the icon when you are in the question review that follows each lesson segment and you will have a pop-up window containing a thorough explanation of the test question.
  8. What is IFR, What Does IFR Stand For?
IFR stands for Instrument Flight Rules (as opposed to VFR, or Visual Flight Rules). This set of rules governs how a pilot flies when the weather is poor, and they cannot conduct the entire flight by simply looking out the window. Pilots must operate under Instrument Fight Rules when the weather is classified as IMC, or Instrument Meteorological Conditions. IMC means the conditions are poor enough that VFR flying cannot be done safely. To fly under IFR, both the pilot and the aircraft must be certified for IFR. This means that if the pilot and aircraft are IFR capable, they can operate safely in a wider variety of weather conditions and circumstances. An IFR rating is an extremely valuable safety tool for any pilot.
  9. How do I access my course completion certificate?

Instrument Rating
Going to take my instrument rating, I'm doing school at Part 141 but still loved Kings to help with the fast paced learning expectations. Really helped fill in some of the knowledge gaps between sessions with my CFI. Every lesson my CFI would say "Wow, that was really easy to explain to you!" and I would say "Thanks, it's because I watched King Schools' videos."

Pass with a decent margin
I did OK on the test. I don't know how much better I could have done with just King Schools material, but I'm satisfied. On to the checkride.

Easy, but detailed learning
I was dreading this whole module because all you ever hear is how difficult and hard the learning process for instrument flying is. That has not been true in my experience. I was able to apply the classroom knowledge to flying with my CFII and I do not feel lost or frustrated at all. The videos were descriptive enough (outside of what you need to know for the academic portion of the written test) that I felt like I had the heads up for actual flying scenarios and situations. I actually enjoyed learning about this!

Awesome Flight Instruction!!
John and Martha King are spot on and very thorough in their courses.  I completed the Instrument Training course and passed my knowledge exam with a great score.  Also I found that the library with all of the supplements are critical.  They keep all of this up do date.  King Schools is my standard for flight training moving forward.  I am a tough critic and King Schools is quality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
